Home Up Minn Bridge Kansas City Louisiana

Former Kansas City Councilman Saundra McFadden-Weaver will be the lone defendant facing trial next week on mortgage fraud charges.

Her last remaining co-defendant, Emanuel M. Kind, pleaded guilty today and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the case against her.

Kind, 52, had lived in the Lee’s Summit house at the center of the case. He pleaded guilty to single counts of conspiracy and wire fraud. Another defendant, Ricky L. Hamilton, pleaded guilty to similar charges Tuesday and also agreed to cooperate against McFadden-Weaver.

McFadden-Weaver, who lost her re-election bid after her indictment in January, is accused of falsely pledging to live in the Lee’s Summit home to obtain money to renovate another home owned by her church.

MO legislator pleads guilty to immigration fraud

Cooper Nathan Cooper, who represents Cape Girardeau in the Missouri House, has pleaded guilty to fraud because he allegedly helped seasonal workers come into the country and work as truck drivers. (Seasonal workers are allowed, but driving trucks is one of the jobs they aren't cleared to do.)

Cooper, 33, could get 15 years and a $500K fine. The authorities say he set up shell companies and bought visas. AP reports that he'll resign from the legislature and surrender his law license.
